Why do I need The Ant-Mote™ when there is already a built-in ant moat in my feeder?

It’s time to think about putting out hummingbird feeders again, so we thought it was a good time to clarify an issue that has been asked many times in the past. The question is

“Why do I need The Ant-Mote™ when there is already a built-in ant moat in my feeder?”

There are several reasons to use The Ant-Mote™, which we are sure you will come to love. We have designed the Ant-Mote so that you no longer have to hang your feeder but can now place your feeder on a 5/8" straight pole anywhere in your garden or a 5/8" pole that clamps to your deck railing, allowing you closer observation. Both of these situations are great but ants will soon find the feeders. Our Ant-Mote was designed to be located below the feeder, thus stopping the ants long before they can get near the feeder, unlike a built-in ant moat. It provides a large expanse of water when full and is intentionally formed to stop the ants from navigating across to the pole even when the water is low due to evaporation. A built-in ant moat is generally quite small and evaporates quickly providing minimal protection.

Maybe many of you have noticed that feeders that are hung from a tree limb or a shepherd’s hook can swing in the wind, spilling nectar and water, not to mention sometimes stripping the hook and falling. Pole mounting is exceptionally stable so the nectar stays contained in the feeder and the water level in the Ant-Mote remains high. Fewer refills are required, another plus.

An added bonus with The Ant-Mote™ as opposed to built-in ant moats, is that other birds (and bees) will use it to drink and refresh themselves during the hot summer months. It is delightful to see.

It’s true, most nectar feeders are designed with a built-in ant moat. However, when pole-mounting your feeder, this becomes ineffective which is exactly why we designed The Ant-Mote™.
